Here goes:
3 people went to a restaurant for dinner. When they called for the bill, the waiter told them that the total cost was $30. Each person paid $10, but when the waiter returned to the cashier, he found out that the bill was actually only $25. Because he did not want the three people to fight over money, he kept the $2 for himself and returned the $3 to them. So in total, each person paid $9. But when $9 is multiplied by the 3 people, it is $27, and after adding the $2 the waiter kept, it is only $29. Where did the other $1 go?

Mr. Lian (who was and is our form teacher) asked us the question last year while we were bored, and I still have yet to receive a satisfactory answer. He gave no explanation.
