LongShadowsWarriors.jpg

Finished reading Long Shadows on Thursday, thanks to Debbie for lending me the book! =^.^=

I haven’t ranted about Warriors for a long time =D

I really don’t like the Power of Three. It’s very…dark. There’s so much anger, hate, revenge…death. I understand that the Erins want to have something different from the first two series, so they input so much ancestry, secrets and power. But that’s the very thing turning us Warriors fans away from the third series. It’s too complex. The first two series were quite the kind of happy-go-lucky kind. Of course, there are tense and sad moments, such as when Scourge killed Tigerstar in The Darkest Hour, or when Firestar lost a life to the fox trap set by Hawkfrost. Even so, they were acceptable.

Warriors is classified as a book recommended for 9 – 12 years old. I admit I’m much older than that, but who says that to read a book there must be an age limit?

The Power of Three is already so dark. What about Omen of the Stars? Is the Power of Three suitable for kids of the ages mentioned?

I also have a theory that since many Warriors fan started reading the books around the mentioned age, they would be about 3 – 4 years older now, and the Erins want to keep the old audience. But if they keep the books at this kind of plot, a lot of people will be discouraged.

I’m not the only one who thinks the third series is very dark. I have seen online reviews by fellow fans, and some people in school who are also Warriors fans have the same opinion.

Even the last scene in Sunset of The New Prophecy, where Firestar was trapped by Hawkfrost, was starting to be quite dark. It was neutralised because there was a kind of happy ending, when the prophecy ‘Before there is peace, blood will spill blood, and the lake will run red’ that was given to Leafpool was fulfilled. In the Power of Three, throughout the books, there were no happy endings at all in ANY book.

I’m a sucker for happy endings. But I’m pretty sure the Warriors fans are all tired of the darkness and complexity in the books.

In all the books for the third series, there were a kind of happy ending, such as when Cinderheart, Hollyleaf and Lionblaze got their warrior names in Eclipse. But that was changed when Jaypaw started asking questions about the Three.

Sunrise is the worst of the lot. Even though I haven’t read it, there has been so many disappointment about it from fans that almost everyone who hasn’t read it knows the ending. Hollyleaf went insane and was killed.

Alright, I shall end my Warriors rant here. Fading Echoes in Omen of the Stars was released 5 days ago, I hope it’ll be a lot better. The Erins appear to already have the title for the fourth book, The Sign of the Moon.

A Clan In Need from Ravenpaw’s Path was released on the same date as Fading Echoes O.o

Field Guides Allegiances of the Clans – 6 April 2010
Field Guides Battles of the Clans – 1 June 2010
Super Editions SkyClan’s Destiny – 3 August 2010
Manga Ravenpaw’s Path #3: The Heart of a Warrior – 3 August 2010
Omen of the Stars #3: Night Whispers – 23 November 2010
